Established in August 1930, No.2 Teaching Building at Guangzhou No.2 High School has witnessed decades of history. No.2 Teaching Building isn’t just a building. It’s a living testament to the evolution of education in Guangzhou. The school’s original name, Guangzhou No.2 Middle School, was changed to Guangzhou No.2 High School in 2012. The school boasts two campuses. The Yingyuan Road Campus, where our No.2 Teaching Building stands, is nestled on the south slope of Yuexiu Hill. This location carries a rich historical significance, as it once housed the Xuehai Hall, established in 1824. Imagine the echoes of scholars from centuries past mingling with the voices of today’s students. The second campus, the Science City Campus, opened in 2005 and caters to high school students. Now, here’s a fascinating tidbit. Did you know that Guangzhou No.2 High School’s motto is “Dingtian Lidi”? Translated, it means “standing with his head in the clouds and feet on the earth.” This motto, introduced in the 1940s and relaunched in 2019, encapsulates the school’s ambition to blend lofty ideals with practical grounding. The school has also fostered a unique campus culture. The concept of “Yi-Zhong-Ren,” meaning “righteous, loyal, and benevolent,” gained popularity in 2010. Interestingly, “Yi-Zhong-Ren” sounds similar to “People of No.2 School” in Cantonese. The school has a vibrant extracurricular scene too. The annual Music Creator Concert is a unique event where students perform original songs or rewritten versions of existing ones.
