He briefly held Malahide Castle during the Cromwellian era. His harsh rule made him deeply unpopular. After the Restoration, he was executed at Malahide. Now, his ghost is said to appear on the anniversary of his death, reliving his final moments. The gardens at Malahide Castle are another treasure. The 7th Lord Talbot, Milo, was a passionate botanist. His influence is evident in the diverse and beautiful plant life. Milo’s life, however, took a mysterious turn. He died under strange circumstances during a Greek cruise in 1973. No post-mortem was conducted, and his sister burned all his personal papers. Some suspect foul play, possibly linked to his friendships with Soviet spies during his time at Cambridge. In 1976, Rose Talbot sold Malahide Castle to Fingal County Council. This sale preserved the castle and its grounds for the public to enjoy. Though some furnishings were sold off, thankfully, the Irish State managed to recover several key pieces.
