Centro de Arte Alcobendas

Opened in 2010, the Centro de Arte Alcobendas stands as a modern marvel. It’s more than just a building; it’s a testament to intelligent design and sustainability. The Centro de Arte Alcobendas seamlessly blends art, technology, and nature. Its architects, Fernando Parrilla Villafruela and María Isabel Muñoz Parrilla, envisioned a space that would draw visitors in. The transparent glass facades and the plaza-like entrance, sheltered by large overhangs, beckon you to explore the wonders within. Inside the Centro de Arte Alcobendas, you’ll find not just exhibition halls but also a large auditorium. There’s a mediateca, rehearsal rooms, and audiovisual spaces. This multifaceted approach reflects the center’s ambition. It aims to be a cultural beacon for the northern part of the Community of Madrid. The Centro de Arte Alcobendas also houses the Alcobendas Art Collection. This collection has a rich history, dating back to the late 1970s. The collection began with the National Salons of Plastic Arts, each dedicated to a different art form. In 1985, during the fifth edition held at the then-new Casa de la Cultura, the town began acquiring works of art. This marked the beginning of the collection, featuring artists like Máximo Trueba, Fernando Sinaga, and Victoria Civera. Today, the collection at the Centro de Arte Alcobendas also includes works by renowned artists like Bernardí Roig, Joan Brossa, and Mitsuo Miura. Photography joined the Salons in 1994, not as a competition, but as a deliberate effort to build a collection. A commission carefully selected photographers, establishing what is now known as the Alcobendas Photography Collection, initially titled “Genres and Trends at the Dawn of the 21st Century.” The Centro de Arte Alcobendas is a vibrant hub of creativity and culture. It bridges the past and the present, offering something for everyone.
