Painted across a vibrant wall, the West End Mural bursts with color and life. It’s more than just a painting. It’s a love letter to the West End and Atlanta. This mural has had quite the journey. The original, painted in 2017, was a sprawling 18 feet high and 43 feet wide. It became a local favorite, a popular backdrop for Instagram photos. Sadly, it was lost during construction. But the community’s love for the mural brought it back. The developers, Lee + White, reached out to the original artists, Greetings Tour, to recreate the mural. The new West End Mural, though smaller at 17 feet by 25 feet, is even better for photos. The artists thoughtfully repositioned the lettering higher. This prevents interference from doors and light fixtures. They also updated some of the imagery. The new mural truly captures the heart of the West End community. The “Greetings from WEST END” design is a postcard-style mural. Each letter showcases a local landmark or symbol. The “W” features the iconic Fox Theatre. The “E” highlights the powerful Homage To King Sculpture. The “S” depicts the Olympic Bridge, a reminder of Atlanta’s hosting of the 1996 Olympic Games. The “T” bursts with Georgia peaches, a state symbol. Originally, the second “E” featured the Georgia Aquarium. In the 2023 repaint, it was updated to showcase the historic Clark Atlanta University. The “N” displays the vibrant “Blocks of Culture” banner. The “D” provides a striking view of the Midtown Atlanta skyline. The 3D effect of the mural is particularly impressive. It uses nine colors to create three tones and three angles. The artists even had to battle freezing temperatures during the original painting process, which drained their batteries. But their dedication brought this vibrant artwork to life.
