Initially a three-year program it was housed in the Central High School Building. Today this is known as Old Main. The Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences has grown significantly. It now offers twelve programs. These programs span across four academic departments. These are Applied Health Sciences Health Care Sciences Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The college’s journey reflects Detroit’s own evolution. In 1934 the College of Pharmacy became part of Wayne University. It later became Wayne State University. The college moved to several locations. These moves reflect its growth and changing needs.

A pivotal moment arrived in 2001. The college was renamed the Eugene Applebaum College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. This recognized Eugene Applebaum’s generous gift. He donated five million dollars. Applebaum was a 1960 alumnus. He founded Arbor Drug Stores. His contribution was the largest individual gift in Wayne State University’s history at that time.

The current building opened in 2002. It features 270000 square feet of space. Neumann/Smith Architecture designed it. The building provides modern facilities for students and faculty. These include laboratories offices and classrooms. Mortuary science students have their own dedicated building. This is located on Woodward Avenue.
