Curious about the spiritual heart of this community? Calvary Lutheran Church stands as a beacon of faith here in Charleston. It’s a place where history and hope intertwine.

Calvary Lutheran Church aims to bring Christ’s love to Charleston. The church serves as a bridge connecting people to Jesus. It also connects them to his family and ministry.

Let me tell you about Pastor Marin Cerchez. His journey is truly remarkable. Born in Soviet-controlled Moldova in 1977, he experienced religious suppression firsthand. Owning a Bible was forbidden. The government confiscated church property. Believers faced harassment and imprisonment. Yet, his grandparents secretly shared stories of Jesus with him. Imagine the courage it took.

Pastor Marin’s path led him from atheism to Christian pastor. He mastered ten languages. He earned five advanced degrees. He lived in four countries and four U.S. states.

Calvary Lutheran Church is part of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod. The church believes that Jesus Christ is God’s only son. His resurrection brought victory over sin and death. He will return to restore creation.

The church finds guidance in Scripture. They believe it reveals God’s love. They respond with love for God and their neighbors. Followers of Jesus spread the good news through words and actions.

Here at Calvary Lutheran Church, various ministries thrive. Kids for Christ nurtures young hearts. The Youth Ministry guides teenagers. JOY Fellowship encourages women in their faith.

Hands of His Mercy provides home repairs for those in need. Volunteers also participate in mission trips after natural disasters. Friends of Bartimaeus provides another form of support.

The church offers several ways to connect. Sunday School starts at 8:45 a.m. There are classes for elementary, middle, and high school students. Adult Bible study begins at 8:30 a.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Sunday service is at 10:00 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

Even if you cannot attend in person, you can join online. The service is live-streamed on YouTube. It is available on the church website later. You can also listen to messages on the radio. Tune into Radio by Grace 104.9 FM and 105.1 FM on Saturdays and Sundays at 8:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.

Calvary Lutheran Church also has a Church App. It allows you to listen to messages. You can watch Church Online. You can listen to live worship and see upcoming events.

Calvary Lutheran Church is more than just a building. It’s a community united by faith. It’s a place where everyone is welcome. Its mission is simple. To share the love and grace of Christ with everyone.
