Over a thousand plots. That’s how many caravans call Camping Oortkaten home. Imagine that. A sprawling community nestled near the Hohendeicher See in Hamburg Ochsenwerder.

Camping Oortkaten isn’t your typical campground. It’s a permanent haven for caravans. No tents. No short-term stays. Just a quiet community of long-term residents. It operates from April until October. During winter the site rests. Caravans remain.

This unique place is managed by over twenty independent landlords. Two-thirds of the plots are accessible via the Ochsenwerder Elbdeich. The remaining third lies in an area called Op de Wisch. To reach this secluded haven you follow signs to the Seepavillon. You’ll find it via Warwischer Hinterdeich 4.

Think of the stories these plots hold. Years of laughter. Quiet evenings spent beside the Hohendeicher See. Generations of memories made in this corner of Hamburg. It is a little over half an hour from Hamburg’s city center by car.

Some plots offer electricity. Water costs one euro for 100 liters. Nearby you’ll find a lake ideal for swimming. Windsurfing is also nearby. The Elbe river is just a short distance away. Perfect for fishing or kayaking.

The campground also boasts convenient amenities. A drinking water column stands near the intersection of Oortkatenweg and Ochsenwerder Elbdeich 139. Though a bit farther away. A bank and an Edeka grocery store can be found within a short distance. There are bike paths for exploring Hamburg.

Camping Oortkaten isn’t just a place to park a caravan. It’s a community. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a slice of Hamburg life away from the city bustle. A place where summer memories are made to last a lifetime.
