More recently between 2017 and 2018 the playground saw further improvements. The baseball diamond was transformed into a green platform. Cement blocks now depict sea creatures. They feature titles from Carson’s books Under the Sea Wind The Sea Around Us and The Edge of the Sea. These details highlight her lifelong passion for marine life.

Today Rachel Carson Playground offers a variety of features. There’s a running track perfect for a quick jog. Handball and basketball courts provide opportunities for friendly competition.
