What if you could step into a world of scientific discovery? That’s exactly what awaits you at the Gläsernes Labor. This unique learning center offers a hands-on experience unlike any other.

The Gläsernes Labor is not just any laboratory. It’s a pioneering institution in Germany’s extracurricular education landscape. Imagine a place where up to 14000 students each year engage in real experiments. That’s the Gläsernes Labor.

Founded in 1999, the Gläsernes Labor was one of the first of its kind in Germany. Initially, it was conceived as an information center. It focused on gene technology and biotechnology. However, it quickly adapted to meet the growing need for hands-on learning experiences.

Here, students delve into molecular biology and neurobiology. They also explore cell biology and protein chemistry. Moreover, they can experiment with radioactivity and ecology. The experiments directly relate to research at the innovative Campus Berlin-Buch. This campus is a hub for science and biotechnology.

The Gläsernes Labor is a collaborative effort. It is the joint school lab of the Max-Delbrück-Centrum for Molecular Medicine and the Leibniz-Forschungsinstitut für Molekulare Pharmakologie. The Campus Berlin-Buch GmbH also supports it. Numerous sponsors and promoters contribute to its success. Eckert & Ziegler AG are among the campus partners. The Campus Berlin-Buch GmbH operates the Gläsernes Labor.

But it’s not just for students. The Gläsernes Labor Akademie offers advanced training courses. Scientists and technical staff can benefit from these courses.

Nestled in the BiotechPark, the Gläsernes Labor is part of Campus Berlin-Buch. You’ll find it in the northeastern part of the city. It lies in the Buch district of Pankow. Getting here is easy. Public transport provides excellent access via buses and the S-Bahn.

The Gläsernes Labor offers over 20 experimental courses. These courses cover molecular biology and cell biology. Neurobiology and chemistry are also included. Students can also explore radioactivity and ecology. These courses are designed for secondary school students. The pedagogical concept ensures experiments closely align with curriculum guidelines. Students work independently in small groups. Scientists from campus research institutions guide them.

This mentorship by young researchers ensures students receive an up-to-date perspective. They gain insights into life sciences. They learn about potential career paths. This is a primary goal of this extracurricular learning environment.

The Gläsernes Labor is part of the GenaU network. GenaU promotes STEM education. Founded in 2006, it includes 17 student labs. These labs are at research institutions, universities, and museums. Eight associated partners in Berlin and Brandenburg also participate. Cooperation projects provide diverse free offers. These include career orientation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability programs.

The Gläsernes Labor is also part of the network of student labs. This network is within the Helmholtz Association. It comprises more than 30 labs. It’s also a member of the Bundesverband Lernort Labor.

So, as you stand here, remember that you’re at a place where science comes alive. The Gläsernes Labor is where future scientists are inspired. It is where complex concepts become clear. It’s a beacon of scientific education in Berlin.
