The Igreja Paroquial de S. Martinho de Aliviada is a church that once belonged to the parish of S. Martinho de Aliviada. It was annexed to the parish of Várzea da Ovelha. Both of these communities were once part of the municipality of Soalhães. The parish of S. Martinho de Aliviada was once an abbacy, and its right of presentation belonged to the bishop. This meant that the bishop chose the abbot who would lead the church. But the church fell into disuse and was eventually incorporated into the parish of Várzea da Ovelha. This church is linked to the municipality of Marco de Canaveses thanks to the historical changes that included the extinction of the Saalhães municipality in the 19th century. Today, the church is part of a larger community, but its history as a church of S. Martinho still speaks to its long and interesting past.
