In the spirit of Harald Szeemann Savvy Contemporary embodies the Agency for Spiritual Migrant Work. The gallery invites artists from Europe or North America and artists from Africa, South America, Asia, or Australia to Berlin. They address current issues in the arts, science, sociology, or philosophy. This dialogue is moderated by a curator. The process and results are presented in an exhibition and publication. It aims to foster dialogue. It stimulates critical discourse. It focuses on contemporary art development. It highlights art positions in the Diaspora.
Savvy Contemporary takes a unique position. It goes global. Each show represents a trialogue. This involves curators. It also involves a North American or European artist. Another artist is included from Africa, South America, Asia, or Australia.
Savvy Contemporary survived its first 10 years. It did so in the fast-paced Berlin art scene. It survived without structural funding. The space often lacked project funding. It survived in houses without heating. It faced shifts to the right. It navigated a society resistant to acknowledging colonial histories.
The Invention of Science is a key project. It questions the presumed universality of the scientific canon. It challenges scholarly disciplines. These disciplines are analyzed from a coloniality and patriarchy perspective. This fosters an understanding of our environment. It may lead to new forms of living together.
Savvy Contemporary embodies heart. Volunteers work and chat. Bands or DJs perform. Crowds gather in the courtyard. Savvy Contemporary remains smart, independent, and postcool. It contributes to a global dialogue. Savvy Contemporary invites you to engage. Experience art that transcends boundaries.
