Archbishop James V Casey’s vision took flight in 1967. He founded Risen Christ Catholic Parish. This wasn’t just another church. It was a beacon a launching pad to heaven as the current pastor puts it. The community initially gathered in a high school gymnasium. Then they worshipped in a Continental Theater. Imagine the transformation.

Risen Christ Catholic Church’s story is one of humble beginnings and remarkable growth. Groundbreaking for the new building happened on December 29 1968. The first Mass was celebrated on January 25 1970. This beautiful church with its unique triangular design stands as a testament to faith and community. Some call it the ski jump church. The design is inspired by Le Corbusier’s Notre Dame du Haut chapel. The spire soars 76 feet above the altar.

The church’s story is filled with memorable moments. In 1987 a 6.5-ton statue of the Risen Christ was donated. This magnificent twelve-foot-high statue is a stunning centerpiece. The Emmaus Center was dedicated in 1992. A recent major construction project called Draw Near transformed the church. Accessibility improvements were made. The sound system was upgraded. Everyone can now clearly hear the Word of God. A relic of St Maria Goretti rests within the new altar. Archbishop Samuel J Aquila dedicated this altar on Gaudete Sunday December 15 2024.

The Risen Christ Catholic Church isn’t just a building. It’s a vibrant community. It’s a place where thousands of baptisms confirmations marriages and funerals have taken place. The church has witnessed countless acts of faith and generosity. The church has served its community for over fifty years. It continues to adapt and grow welcoming new members from diverse backgrounds. The new artwork in the Holy Family Chapel reflects this rich diversity.
