Imagine two women, one Black and one white, united in prayer in East Lansdowne, Pennsylvania, yearning for a similar spiritual awakening. Their prayers extended beyond their town, reaching out to the city during street meetings on North Broad Street in Philadelphia. Driven by their faith, these women journeyed to Wales in the early 1920s to witness the revival firsthand. Inspired by their pilgrimage, a team of pastors and prophets traveled from Wales to Philadelphia, sharing their experiences of the Holy Spirit’s movement. This led to the formation of an Apostolic Church congregation in East Lansdowne in 1927. The congregation’s journey continued, leading them to relocate to Center City Philadelphia in 1955, where they became known as the Philadelphia Gospel Temple. Finally, in 1977, they embraced the name Living Word Community, a name that reflects the active and vibrant faith they embody. Today, Living Word Bible Fellowship stands as a multicultural community.
