“Can a jail cell truly be a gateway to God?” Before you stands Park Temple Baptist Church, a place where faith’s journey takes an unexpected turn. Park Temple Baptist Church isn’t just a building. It’s a testament to the transformative power of belief. It’s a place where the echoes of Pastor Henry Garza Sr.’s remarkable story resonate. Park Temple Baptist Church welcomed Pastor Garza in October 2003. He began under the leadership of Senior Pastor Peter Slagle. His journey, however, started years before, in 1999, within the confines of Harris County Jail. There, behind bars, he found God. Upon his release, he embarked on a three-year journey of evangelization, studying the word of God diligently. He began preaching at Faith Baptist Church every Friday night. He also served as a chaplain at Turning Point Mission, a halfway house. He regularly attended Men Star of Hope Mission. He preached and encouraged the men there. At Park Temple Baptist Church, Pastor Garza’s dedication continued. He served as Associate Pastor starting in 2003. He was ordained in 2004. In 2005, he became the Senior Pastor. Today, he leads the congregation alongside his wife of 44 years. He’s a father to three children and a grandfather to thirteen. Park Temple Baptist Church, under Pastor Garza’s guidance, continues to grow in spirit and truth. It remains dedicated to God’s will. It’s a place of discipleship, counseling, and prayer. It’s a place where Pastor Garza and his wife, Alice, welcome everyone into the Park Temple Baptist Church family. So, the next time you pass Park Temple Baptist Church, remember Pastor Garza’s story. Remember that faith can blossom in the most unexpected places. It can transform lives and inspire entire communities.
