Can you believe that this house of worship, Northside Missionary Baptist Church, started as a simple gathering of four men studying God’s Word in a home? It’s hard to imagine, standing here before this beautiful building. It all started way back in September 1962, when Reverend Cleothus Montgomery was called to be the pastor. He became the official founding pastor of Northside Missionary Baptist Church just a month later. Under his 54 years of leadership, the church was a driving force in the community, influencing lives spiritually, politically, and even academically. Due to the continuous growth in membership, they moved four times before finally finding their current home in 2000. Since then, they have added the “Cleothus Montgomery Family Life Center,” a testament to the enduring legacy of Reverend Montgomery. Today, the church continues to grow under the leadership of Pastor Valor Cooper, who honors the legacy of Dr. Montgomery by encouraging growth and spiritual maturation. The church has a strong focus on Jesus Christ and his teachings. Northside Missionary Baptist Church is known as the church “where everybody is somebody BECAUSE Jesus Christ is Lord.” Their motto is to exemplify the character of Christ spiritually, socially, economically, and morally. The church plays a vitally important role in the community, providing a sense of belonging, offering support, and inspiring many.
