A hush fell over the crowd of 20,500. The lights dimmed at the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre. It was 1998. The Spice Girls, at the peak of their global fame, were about to take the stage for their first ever sold-out concert at this brand new venue. The North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre had just opened its doors a month prior. It quickly became a popular destination for music lovers. The North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre has gone through several name changes over the years. It started as the Coors Amphitheatre. Then it became the Cricket Wireless Amphitheatre in 2008. In 2013, it was renamed the Sleep Train Amphitheatre, after the mattress company. Just a few years later, in 2017, it became the Mattress Firm Amphitheatre, reflecting Sleep Train’s rebranding. Finally, in 2018, it adopted its current name, the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre. North Island Credit Union pledged to enhance the concert-going experience as part of their sponsorship. Beyond its main amphitheater and lawn, the North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre boasts a VIP club for a more intimate experience. It can accommodate up to 19,128 guests. The venue is located in Chula Vista. It sits on 72 acres that were once open fields and a dairy farm, later developed into an industrial park. The North Island Credit Union Amphitheatre is more than just a concert venue. It’s a testament to transformation, a place where music echoes through the valley, carrying with it the history of the land and the energy of countless performances.
