Baptist Friendship House isn’t just a building. It’s a ministry. It’s a place where lives are transformed. Initially opened in 1944 it found its current home in 1947 a few blocks from the famous French Quarter. The ministry has adapted over the years. It addresses the most urgent needs of the city. This adaptability is what’s kept it alive and vibrant.

Friendship House provides essential services. These include food showers and clothing for the homeless. They offer transitional housing for women and their children. Day programs include literacy classes ESL job readiness training and a community Bible study. The staff also assists survivors of human trafficking. They offer temporary housing and connections to long-term care.

They collaborate with numerous organizations. They partner with the National Woman’s Missionary Union and the Southern Baptist North American Mission Board. This collaboration expands their reach and impact. The ministry’s work in combating human trafficking earned it recognition. FBI Director Christopher Wray presented them with the Director’s Community Leadership Award.

Kay Bennett the executive director for over two decades embodies the spirit of Friendship House. She’s witnessed countless miracles. She sees the transformative power of faith. Her dedication and commitment inspire.

The heart of Friendship House beats with compassion. It’s a place of acceptance where judgment is absent. It’s a place where hope blossoms even in the face of despair. It’s a lighthouse in a city often described as one that forgot how to care. Friendship House reminds us that love action and truth can change lives one person at a time. It truly lives up to its name.
