Was the origin of Wooloowin’s name a pigeon or a type of fish? Local indigenous language suggests both. Wooloowin is an inner-north suburb of Brisbane. It’s located about 5-6km north of the city’s central business district. Wooloowin has a rich history. It was once home to Brisbane’s first Resident Judge, Alfred Lutwyche, who resided at Kedron Lodge. Imagine the stories those walls could tell. Education found its roots in Wooloowin as well. Holy Cross Primary School opened its doors in 1889, followed by Wooloowin State School in 1914. Kedron State High School, just outside Wooloowin’s boundary, joined them in 1956. Today, Wooloowin is a blend of historical charm and modern living. The suburb boasts numerous heritage-listed sites, a testament to its past. Yet, it also embraces contemporary life with a thriving community.
