Ever wondered about a sanctuary where meditation and Kriya Yoga pave the path to self-discovery? Here at the Self-Realization Fellowship in Denver, that journey begins. It is a part of a worldwide religious organization. The Self-Realization Fellowship was founded in 1920 by Paramahansa Yogananda. Its international headquarters are in Los Angeles.
The Self-Realization Fellowship’s purpose is to disseminate Kriya Yoga. This is a scientific technique for attaining direct personal experience of God. It seeks to awaken greater understanding of the harmony. This harmony underlies all true religions. It promotes a fuller expression of the love. This love unites all people when they realize their oneness in God.
Paramahansa Yogananda, also known as Swami Yogananda, left an indelible mark on Denver. A photo taken on August 23, 1931, shows him in front of the Denver SRF Temple. It was located at 939 Grant Street then. This location was just three blocks south of the Capitol building. Back then, Denver Meditation Group services were held every Thursday evening. They also took place on Sunday afternoons. The services started at 3:30 PM. Swami Yogananda delivered four free public lectures at the Albany Hotel. The Albany Hotel stood at the NE corner of 17th and Stout Streets. This was in the central business district. A special musical program preceded each lecture. Swami Yogananda gave numerous public lectures in Denver during 1924 too.
Weekly SRF lessons are available. They are for those eager to study the SRF teachings. These lessons come from the SRF international headquarters in Los Angeles. They include techniques for recharging the body. Also concentration and meditation techniques are taught. You will learn the higher technique of Kriya Yoga too. There is also guidance on how to live a balanced material and spiritual life.
Meditation is a cornerstone of every SRF service. The Self-Realization Fellowship seeks to reveal the harmony found in all religions. They want to encourage the expression of love. This love unites everyone when they understand their connection with God.

Self-realization is the knowing. It is the knowing in body, mind, and soul. We are one with the omnipresence of God. We don’t have to pray for it to come to us. We are not merely near it. God’s omnipresence is our omnipresence. We are just as much a part of Him now as we will ever be. All we have to do is improve our knowing.
