Paige Goodin, the owner, won a $4.1 million verdict. This was for a police brutality incident. It happened during the 2020 civil unrest. This followed Walter Wallace Jr.’s death. Goodin was outside Turning Paige’s Islamic Learning Center. She was protecting it when police assaulted her.

Goodin, a 30-year-old college-educated Muslim woman, operated two child-care centers. They offered Islam-based care for children. These children came from various religious backgrounds. The attorney noted parts of the incident were recorded. Police body cameras captured them.

The attorney said she was the type of business owner they should protect. Instead, they assaulted and battered her. She could no longer work at that location.

Despite identifying herself and not protesting, she was forced away. An officer hit her with a baton. She suffered injuries requiring stitches. Another officer handcuffed her. She was detained in a van without medical attention. She was not charged with any crime.

Goodin still experiences post-traumatic stress. The damages included $4 million for lost income. There was also $100,000 in punitive damages against the officers. An Internal Affairs investigation found excessive force. Necessary paperwork was not completed.
