“Arizona Lady” they call her. This magnificent DC-3 stands proudly at Salzburg Airport. A testament to aviation history. She’s more than just a plane. She’s a symbol of a bygone era.

This isn’t just any DC-3. This particular aircraft has a story. It’s a Douglas C-47A-20-DK. Built in Oklahoma City in 1944. It served the United States Army Air Force. Its serial number was 42-93189.

After the war. The plane had a long and varied life. It flew for TWA. It changed hands many times. It even spent time as a derelict at Wiener Neustadt Airbase.

Then in 1995. The First Austrian DC-3 Dakota Club acquired her. They restored her. They painted her in the colors of Austrian Airlines. This gave her the nickname “Arizona Lady”. The club’s dedication to preserving this piece of aviation history is remarkable.

Today she sits at the Salzburg Airport. A magnificent sight. She’s a reminder of the DC-3’s role in Austrian aviation history. She’s a symbol of the First Austrian DC-3 Dakota Club’s passion. She’s a reminder of a time when flying was a more romantic adventure.
