In 1868, a cornerstone was laid. This marked the beginning of Grace Church in Detroit. The church, originally known as Grace Protestant Episcopal Church, rose steadily on the northeast corner of Second and Fort Streets. Two years later, on a crisp December morning in 1870, the doors of Grace Church swung open. The public poured in for the first service. The air was thick with anticipation and the echoes of hymns filled the newly consecrated space. Sadly, today the site where Grace Church once stood is now a parking lot. The grand building that once hosted countless services and community gatherings is gone. Only its memory and historical records remain.
