Have you ever felt the weight of history beneath your feet? All Saints Church in Mumbai stands before you a testament to faith and resilience. This isn’t just any church. This is a place where the echoes of Victorian England mingle with the vibrant pulse of modern India.

Built in 1881 All Saints Church on Little Gibbs Road was a necessity for the British governors residing in Malabar Hill. The journey to St Thomas Cathedral in Fort was simply too far. So this Anglican church became their closer sanctuary.

The church’s design is a marvel. Major Mant of the Royal Engineers crafted this stunning structure. Lady Ferguson wife of the Governor laid its foundation stone. The semi-circular chancel and Porbandar stone facade speak to its elegant past. But there’s a poignant story behind the missing belfry tower. Damaged in a 1951 cyclone it was removed forever changing the church’s silhouette.

Initially part of St Thomas Cathedral All Saints gained independent parish status only in 1957. The church wasn’t just a place of worship. It was a symbol of community. This is vividly portrayed in the interior. Pews stained glass windows plaques and flooring remain virtually unchanged since 1882. These elements speak volumes about the enduring faith of its congregation. A century of Christmases has been celebrated within these walls. Each Christmas mistletoe and holly adorn the space. The festive spirit is infectious.

All Saints Church isn’t merely a building. It’s a living story. It’s a bridge between the past and the present a place where history whispers and faith endures. It’s a treasure of Mumbai a place where you feel the past yet experience the present.
