The Academy is a place of history and legacy, founded in 1931 by the Sisters of Saint Basil the Great. The Basilian Sisters came to Philadelphia in 1911, invited by Bishop Soter Ortynsky, the first Ukrainian Catholic Ordinary in America. The Sisters devoted themselves to the education of Ukrainian orphans and children in their parishes. But they never forgot their dream: to create a Catholic high school for girls. In 1931, St. Basil Academy opened its doors in the newly built convent building, offering a convent boarding school for girls. Now, the Academy stands as a testament to the commitment of the Sisters, offering a diversified curriculum to students from diverse backgrounds.
