This romantic vision materialized in the form of a smaller, yet still impressive, neo-Gothic castle. Unfortunately, financial difficulties prevented the Duchess from fully realizing her dream. The Palatáki was never truly completed according to her original plans. The story takes an unexpected turn with the arrival of Nikolaos Nazos. This wealthy Athenian acquired the Palatáki and transformed it into a splendid venue for social gatherings and celebrations. His vision for the Palatáki differed from the Duchess’s romantic aspirations. He embraced its unique architecture and turned it into a hub of social life. Later, the Palatáki came into the possession of the Melina Merkouri Public Foundation. From 1987 to 1993, restoration efforts breathed new life into the aging structure. The Palatáki evolved once again, this time becoming a cultural center. Today, it proudly houses the Municipal Center of Chaidari.
