Right here in Tulsa stands O’Brien Park. This park is more than just green space. It is a place with a story.

O’Brien Park wasn’t always called that. Back in 1959, Tulsa County bought 88 acres for $50000. The plan was to build Northside County Park. It became the only Tulsa County park created from land bought specifically for that purpose. Northside County Park opened in 1962. It was simple. It only had six concrete picnic tables.

Everything changed in 1966. The park was renamed O’Brien Park. This was in memory of District 1 Commissioner Frank O’Brien. He had been key in making the park a reality. Today, O’Brien Park has grown. It now covers over 140 acres.

O’Brien Park is known for several things. There is a baseball complex for sports fans. A recreation center offers activities. Gardeners will love the community garden. It even features a unique combined disc golf and ball golf course. This is the only one of its kind in Oklahoma.

Let’s talk about the golf. O’Brien Park offers something special. There is a three-hole layout. You will find par 3s and 4s. There are 14 tee-box locations. A large driving range helps golfers practice. Putting and chipping areas are also available. The course includes three lakes. It is designed for walking so you can enjoy the scenery.

Looking for some water fun? O’Brien Park has a splash pad. Please note it is open until September 1st.

Baseball is big here. O’Brien Park boasts 10 baseball fields. A batting cage lets players sharpen their skills.

Want to relax? O’Brien Park has three picnic pavilions. You can find picnic tables and grills throughout the park. Walking trails wind through the area. Green spaces offer room to roam. Two playgrounds keep children entertained.

Fishing is an option too. A fishing pond is available. Remember Oklahoma fishing laws apply. Anyone 16 and over needs a fishing license. This applies to both residents and non-residents. Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation enforces these rules.

Don’t miss the North Tulsa Victory Garden. It is a testament to community spirit.

Organizations can even reserve park amenities. If you’re planning a special event email parksreservations@tulsacounty.org.

So next time you are looking for a place with recreation, remember O’Brien Park. It’s a place where history and community come together.
