Wondering where Hamburg’s students master not just traditional subjects but also MINT skills? That’s the Stadtteilschule Öjendorf. This comprehensive school isn’t just about textbooks and classrooms. It is about shaping well-rounded individuals ready for the challenges of tomorrow.

The Stadtteilschule Öjendorf stands proudly at Öjendorfer Höhe 12. Its story began in 1957 as the Schule Merkenstraße. Over the years, it transformed to meet the evolving needs of its students. The school became Gesamtschule Öjendorf in 1978. In 2010, it was then reborn as Stadtteilschule Öjendorf during Hamburg’s school reforms.

The campus itself tells a tale of growth and adaptation. The school expanded in 1964 adding a specialized learning wing. New pavilions replaced older structures in 1989. From 2012 to 2014, renovations modernized the facilities. A new extension with larch wood and bright brick replaced an older section. This cost around 4.1 million EUR. Further improvements are in the works. The single-field Seitzhalle will become a double-field sports hall.

Stadtteilschule Öjendorf is a full-day school. The school day runs from 8 AM to 4 PM. Short breaks after each hour-long lesson refresh minds. The school provides students with varied learning opportunities. Students can achieve different academic qualifications. These include the ESA, MSA or Abitur. The Abitur is achieved through cooperation with Kurt-Körber-Gymnasium.

The school teaches its 696 students many languages. English starts in year 5. Latin begins in year 7. Students can study French, Russian, Spanish and Turkish. These languages are offered from years 7 and 11. The school promotes international understanding with student exchanges to Tel Mond in Israel.

Stadtteilschule Öjendorf excels in MINT subjects. It has a strong interdisciplinary MINT program. It captivates students with real-world topics. For example, the “Longboard Course” combines technology, movement and math. It also includes a visit to Thyssenkrupp. All students in years 8 and 10 take mandatory computer science classes. Students serve as media scouts. They help to improve digital education. There are compulsory DaZ courses for math and science teachers.

Extracurricular activities enrich school life. Students can participate in musical productions. They can join the musical choir. The music club creates audio plays. There is a costume and stage design club. Students can engage in football and dance. The school participates in cross-country, track and field and relay competitions.

The school also cultivates a healthy lifestyle. It has its own canteen. The canteen offers lunch with a variety of options. Vegetarian dishes are available.
