Is this the humble beginning of Brazos Bend Baptist Church? We are standing in front of the Brazos Bend Baptist Mission. It all started in September 1986 with a simple home Bible study led by Pastor Orville Roberts. This marked the very first seed of faith planted for this community. On January 18, 1987, the Brazos Bend Baptist Church took a leap of faith. They moved from the intimacy of homes to two mobile homes. This land was a generous donation from Mary Belle Day. Can you picture the scene? Imagine their joy when they acquired a historic chapel building. This chapel, originally from Beasley, was built in 1917 and purchased from the George Foundation. The congregation celebrated Easter Sunday, 1987, with their first service in this very chapel. Later that year, Bob Freeman became their pastor. The church thrived under his guidance, becoming self-sufficient by 1988.
