Founded in 1899 Hindu College stands proudly in Delhi. Its story is interwoven with India’s struggle for independence. Initially housed in a modest building in Kinari Bazar Hindu College faced challenges. The Punjab University threatened disaffiliation. A generous donation from Rai Bahadur Lala Sultan Singh saved the day. He gifted a portion of his property at Kashmiri Gate. This became Hindu College’s home until 1953.

Hindu College became a hub for intellectual and political discourse. It played a significant role in the Quit India Movement. The college’s students’ parliament established in 1935 is unique in Delhi. It provided a platform for influential leaders like Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. They inspired the youth to fight for freedom. The college’s involvement in the movement led to arrests and temporary closure.

Today Hindu College boasts a 25-acre campus. It houses laboratories an auditorium and a seminar room. There’s a sports complex for basketball cricket and table tennis. The college library established in 1899 is one of the oldest in Delhi University. Both boys’ and girls’ hostels provide accommodation. The college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in science humanities and commerce.

Hindu College achieved first rank among Indian colleges in NIRF rankings in 2024. Its Department of Biotechnology received ‘Star College’ status.
