Deep within the rugged terrain of Clark County, Nevada, lies the Pauline Mine. This unassuming site holds a unique place in the region’s mining history. The Pauline Mine, nestled at an elevation of 5,640 feet, was once a source of copper, lead, and zinc. The mine’s story isn’t one of booming production or immense wealth. It’s a story of smaller-scale operations, a glimpse into the diverse mining activities that shaped this area. Records show no significant output, yet some ore was indeed shipped. The Pauline Mine offers a glimpse into the geological forces that shaped this landscape. The presence of cuprodescloizite, forming crusts around rock fragments, speaks to the unique mineral composition of the area. The mine sits near a large-scale overthrust fault and a contact thrust fault. These geological features played a crucial role in the formation of mineral deposits in the region. The Pauline Mine is located about half a mile northeast of the Contact Mine. While less is known about the Pauline Mine compared to its neighbor, the two sites are connected by their proximity and shared geological context. The mine’s primary workings consist of a tunnel extending northwest, with some stoping activity above it. The surrounding area bears witness to the mine’s past. The mine dump reveals traces of lead, zinc, and copper minerals, with cuprodescloizite being particularly abundant. Visiting the Pauline Mine isn’t just about seeing an old mine; it’s about understanding the intricate geological history of the area and the smaller stories within the larger narrative of mining in Nevada.
