Imagine rows of neatly dressed students filing through these gates each morning. This is Hanyang Middle School. It is a place with a story stretching back decades.

Hanyang Middle School was established on September 1 1945 as Hanyang Academy. But its doors officially opened on August 31 1948. Just a few years later on July 1 1948, it was reorganized. It became Hanyang Technical College and Hanyang Technical Middle School.

The school’s motto is “diligence, honesty, humility, service”. These values are instilled in its students. The ginkgo tree symbolizes Hanyang Middle School. The forsythia flower represents it too.

Hanyang Middle School is a boys’ middle school. It is organized into 21 classes for the third grade. The school focuses on special aptitude training. This includes word certification, English grammar, and daily mathematics. Students can participate in scientific exploration. Historical site visits are offered. Fun activities include billiards, futsal, baking, and confectionery. Science films and art experiences are available. Invention programs offer creativity. A special project is the smoking prevention campaign. The school received a commendation for this in 2003.

Kim Yeon-jun, former chairman of Hakyang Academy, founded Hanyang Academy Foundation on September 1 1945. He became the first principal on June 22 1961. Hanyang Technical University reorganized into Hanyang Technical Middle School on July 1 1948. This lasted for six years.

In 1951, Hanyang Middle School was organized into nine classes. This followed the revision of the Education Act. The school increased its number of teachers in 1965. It added more classrooms in 1966. Expansion of two classes was approved in 1967. Part 2 of the school was closed in 1971. This was due to the middle school standardization plan.

The 67th graduation ceremony was held on February 9 2018. A total of 31709 students had graduated by then. Hong Soon-beom became the 16th Principal on March 1 2018.

Today Hanyang Middle School continues to shape young minds. It prepares them for the challenges and opportunities of the future. As you stand here, consider the thousands of students who have walked these halls. Each one carries a piece of Hanyang’s legacy.
