“Imagine a school born from the dreams of Filipino families” I say as we approach Al Majd International School Dammam. It is a story of resilience and a commitment to education. Al Majd International School Dammam started as a vision. Four Filipino families wanted a school for their children.
In 1995 their dream came true. The school opened as Philippine Embassy School in Dammam. It had 118 students and a small staff. The school quickly became known for quality education. Its fees were minimal.
But the school faced challenges. The Philippine Embassy stopped its support. The school needed a new sponsor. Mr. Al-Zaki Al-Awami stepped in. He became the school’s first Saudi sponsor. The school was now a private school.
After two years Mr. Al-Awami had to step down. Princess Jawaher Bint Mohammed Bin Fahad Bin Jalawi became the new sponsor in 1996. The school’s name changed to Al Majd International School Dammam-Philippine Section. It became an extension of Al Majd International School-British Curriculum.
This arrangement did not last. The school returned to its well-known name Philippine School Dammam. In 2009 the Ministry of Education made a change. One school should have one sponsor. Princess Jawaher passed the sponsorship to her brother Prince Mohammed Bin Fahad Bin Jalawi. The school became Al Jazeera International School in Dammam.
In 2015 major changes occurred. The Ministry of Education wanted gender segregation. The school needed a new building for girls. The school’s name changed again. It became Al Majd International School Dammam Philippine Curriculum.
Today Al Majd International School Dammam continues to adapt. It aims to provide quality education to Filipino children. The school wants its students to excel. It wants to provide a genuine quality education.
