Questions swirl around us. What makes the Gymnasium Römerhof so special? Why is it named after a historic estate? Let’s dive into the story of this Frankfurt school.

The Gymnasium Römerhof began its journey in 2018. It’s still growing. Currently, it teaches students up to the 11th grade. The first graduating class should achieve their general university entrance qualification in 2027.

Right now, classes take place in temporary steel containers. Soon the Gymnasium Römerhof will move. The new building will be north of the current location. It will feature a timber modular design. This eco-friendly design mirrors the Schulcampus Westend. That campus houses the Adorno-Gymnasium and the Holzhausenschule.

Using wood offers ecological advantages. Wood is a renewable resource. It comes from Central European forests. This material reduces carbon dioxide emissions. Modular construction boosts efficiency. Ceilings, facades, and walls are prefabricated. They are assembled on-site. This reduces noise pollution near the school.

The new school construction will happen in two phases. The first phase should be complete in 2024. Then the first upper school year can use parts of the new building. A three-field sports hall is planned further west. It will sit between the sports field and the shooting ranges. Local clubs can also use it.

Getting to the Gymnasium Römerhof is easy. Since late 2022, there’s been a modern bus stop. It has shelters and pedestrian crossings. The city invested around 615,000 euros in it. Another 30,000 euros went to shelters and equipment. Bus lines 52 and 59 run more often. That helps students arrive on time.

The Gymnasium Römerhof emphasizes history and culture. History is taught from the 5th grade. The school offers many foreign languages. Students can choose Spanish as their first foreign language. They can earn the DELE Spanish diploma.

The Gymnasium Römerhof also uses bilingual teaching. In the second half of 5th grade, some lessons are taught in English. These include art and biology. Spanish bilingual classes start in 7th grade.

The school integrates cultural experiences. Students visit museums and historical sites. They explore exhibits. The Gymnasium Römerhof is becoming a Kulturschule. This program makes art and culture central to school life. Students experience art. They develop their artistic potential. This happens in regular classes. For example, students might build sculptures in German class. Or they could create theater scenes in foreign language class.

The Gymnasium Römerhof collaborates with cultural institutions. These include museums and theaters. It will be the only Kulturschule gymnasium in Frankfurt.

The Gymnasium Römerhof offers several languages. In 5th grade, students start with English. In 6th grade, they choose Spanish, French, or Latin. Students choosing Spanish can take an extra English class. Those who pick English can later choose French, Latin, or Spanish.

Students can participate in various after-school activities. These include acrobatics and chess. There are book clubs and DELE prep courses. They also offer homework help and LEGO club. Science, robotics, swimming, and theater are options too. The school has a student newspaper and a band.

The Gymnasium Römerhof focuses on respect. “Days for Tolerance and Respect” promote a positive environment. Students create posters. They discuss tolerance. The school involves parents through events. The goal is to create a welcoming community. The Gymnasium Römerhof is more than just a school. It is a place of growth.
