Can you imagine going to a school, named after a creek, where wolves once roamed? Langham Creek High School, a towering structure of red, black, and white, stands proudly in the heart of Houston. It’s a place where the echoes of history blend seamlessly with the vibrant energy of today’s students. The school was built in 1984, to ease the crowding of the Cypress Fairbanks Independent School District. It was the district’s fourth high school and the biggest single-building high school at the time. There’s a legend here. The mascot, the “lobo,” Spanish for “wolf,” stands as a tribute to the area’s fascinating past — a time when red wolves roamed free, their hides even strung along fences at the intersection of FM 529 and State Highway 6. Wolf Corner, they called it. The area is not so wild anymore. Today, Langham Creek is known for its diverse student population. Its motto, “The Power of the Pack is the Lobo. The Power of the Lobo is the Pack,” is a reminder that strength comes from unity. It’s a place where the spirit of exploration and achievement runs deep, The school has earned a National Blue Ribbon School award and its Computer Science Team continues to dominate competitions. This school may not be named after a wolf, but the spirit of the “lobo” is definitely alive and well at Langham Creek High School.
