“And I say also unto thee”, Jesus said. These words sparked the legacy of love, faith, and hope at Second Mount Olive Baptist Church. This church’s story began in December 1966. Reverend Peter Taylor started it. He had no building. He and ten believers worshiped in temporary places. They waited to buy a church.
Under Pastor Taylor’s leadership, the church grew. Grief struck in 1975. Reverend Taylor passed away on December 15th. Members sought a new leader.
God led them to Reverend Herbert Piro. He continued the legacy of love, faith, and hope. He served faithfully for eighteen years. The Second Mt. Olive family saw ministers called. The legacy continued. The church knew God’s promise. Jeremiah 3:15 says God will give pastors after His heart. These pastors will feed them with knowledge. They will provide understanding. The church sought a new shepherd. They wanted someone to continue their legacy. On June 7, 1994, Minister Arthur Ray Young was called. He would pastor Second Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
He was installed on July 24, 1994. The legacy of love, faith, and hope was ordered by God. Second Mount Olive followed God’s path. Pastor Young was favored on Pentecost. The church was like the one in Acts 2:47. It praised God. It had favor with all people. The Lord added to the church daily.
Under Pastor Young, the church grew spiritually and numerically. Many new ministries started. Members could participate. They met their spiritual needs. Second Mt. Olive stood as a pillar. It was in the Fifth Ward community. It pointed people to the heavenly way. This happened through preaching God’s Word. It happened by establishing ministries. In world turmoil, the church moved forward. It carried the banner for Jesus Christ. He is our Captain. The church had been moving forward for fifty-two years. God helped them move. They went from 2523 Chew Street. Now they worship in a new sanctuary. It is at 5214 Cavalcade Street.
Pastor Young dedicated himself to God’s call. His teaching and preaching led souls to Christ. He stood strong in times of trouble. He kept Second Mount Olive moving. He maintained its legacy of love, faith, and hope. Pastor Young went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2020. We honor his legacy. We remember his labor of love at Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church.
With God’s help, Pastor Bryan O. Morris, Sr. accepted the call. It was March 13, 2022. He became the 4th shepherd of Second Mt. Olive Baptist Church. On August 14, 2022, Pastor Morris was installed. It was by the grace of God. He has been instrumental in adding souls to the church. He believes in his vision. “We’re Better Together.”
Reverend Herbert Piro led Second Mt. Olive on their legacy of love, faith, and hope. He served faithfully. It was for eighteen years. The Second Mt. Olive family witnessed the calling of several ministers. The legacy continues. The church began seeking God for a new shepherd. On June 7, 1994, Minister Arthur Ray Young was called to Pastor Second Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church.
He was installed on July 24, 1994. Because the legacy of love, faith, and hope had been ordered by God, Second Mount Olive continued the path set by God. Favor was shown toward Pastor Young on the day of Pentecost.
Under Pastor Young’s leadership, the church witnessed much growth both spiritually and numerically. Many new ministries have been established. Second Mt. Olive has stood as a pillar in the Fifth Ward community.
Because of Pastor Young’s dedication to God’s call, his teaching and preaching has led many souls to Christ. Pastor Young went to be with the Lord on July 9, 2020.
With God’s guidance on March 13, 2022, Pastor Bryan O. Morris, Sr., accepted the call. On August 14, 2022 Pastor Morris was officially installed. Within a short period of time Pastor Morris has been instrumental in many souls being added to the church.
