Initially named Prince Sultan College, it quickly gained momentum. The Ministry of Higher Education granted the license in 1998. The first Board of Trustees was soon established. Prince Dr. Abdulaziz bin Mohammed bin Ayaf became chairman. By the end of 1998, studies had commenced.
The first class consisted of 152 students. They were taught by 22 faculty members. In 2001, Prince Sultan College was officially inaugurated by Prince Sultan.
King Salman expressed his gratitude and love for Prince Sultan. He noted Prince Sultan’s dedication to charity. The establishment of the college was a testament to the people’s appreciation.

In the early 2000s, Prince Sultan issued directives. He wanted Prince Sultan Private College to become Prince Sultan University. He also wanted to develop science programs at the men’s campus. These programs included Computer Science, Information Systems, Finance, Accounting, and Marketing.
Around that time, King Salman directed the establishment of the Women’s College. The Ministry of Higher Education approved it. The first group of 119 female students joined.
King Fahad bin Abdulaziz approved the Higher Education Council’s decision. Prince Sultan College officially became Prince Sultan University. Computer Science and Information Systems programs opened to women. A cooperative learning program prepared graduates for the job market. The first class of male students graduated in 2003.
