Did you know that the Imam Ibn Al Qayyim Mosque in Dammam stands as a place of peace? Yet its story is intertwined with moments of profound sorrow.

The Imam Ibn Al Qayyim Mosque is more than just a building. It is a sanctuary for reflection. However, its history has been touched by tragedy. In May 2015, Saudi Arabia faced a series of attacks. These attacks targeted Shia Muslims. The Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque in Qudeih was one such target.

On May 22, 2015, a suicide bomber struck the Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib Mosque. This is not the Imam Ibn Al Qayyim Mosque. The blast killed at least 21 people. ISIS claimed responsibility for this heinous act.

Just a week later on May 29, 2015, another bombing occurred. This time it was in Dammam. A suicide bomber detonated in the parking lot of a Shia mosque. This attack killed four people. Again, ISIS claimed responsibility. These events shook the region. They also highlighted the rising sectarian tensions.

The bombings sparked widespread condemnation. Doctor Fahd bin Saad al-Majed spoke out. He is the General Secretary of the Council of Senior Scholars. He clarified that terrorists would never succeed in harming Saudi unity. Grand Mufti Abdul-Aziz ibn Abdullah Al ash-Sheikh also condemned the attacks. He called them a crime and a great sin.

The UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon joined in condemning the attacks. He said that such acts against places of worship are abhorrent. They promote sectarian conflict. Many countries expressed their condolences. Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates stood in solidarity with Saudi Arabia.

In the aftermath, half a million people participated in funeral processions. They mourned the victims of the Qatif bombing. The victims were buried after funeral prayers. Black flags flew in the streets of Qatif. Despite warnings of further attacks, people gathered to show respect.

One notable act of bravery emerged from the Dammam bombing. A young Shia volunteer named Abed AlJalil Al-Arbash stopped the suicide bomber. He sacrificed his life to prevent the bomber from entering the Masjid Imam Hussain. His courageous act saved countless lives.

These events serve as a stark reminder. They show the importance of peace and unity. Though the Imam Ibn Al Qayyim Mosque was not directly involved, these events deeply affected the community. They underscore the need for vigilance against extremism. They also highlight the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. The Imam Ibn Al Qayyim Mosque stands as a testament to faith. It also symbolizes hope for a future free from violence and division.
