Did you know that Weinhübel was once two separate villages? Let me tell you about Weinhübel in Görlitz. This district blends rural charm with urban convenience. It offers a high quality of life to its residents.

Weinhübel sits south of Görlitz city center on the B99. This highway links Görlitz and Zittau. To the east the district borders the Lusatian Neisse River. This river marks the boundary with Poland. The area was initially named Posottendorf-Leschwitz. However in 1936, it was renamed Weinhübel. Since January 1 1949, Weinhübel has been part of Görlitz.

Once upon a time the area was two villages. These were Posottendorf and Leschwitz. In 1936 these villages were combined. The new name Weinhübel was chosen. It was during the time of national socialist rule. The name was meant to emphasize the region’s German character. It also distanced it from the Slavic origins of the original names. The name refers to the hilly landscape. It hints at a historic idea that wine was once grown here. Yet clear evidence for this is lacking.

The old village center of Weinhübel retains a charm of times past. You can wander through the streets. Discover the traditional Umgebindehäuser. These houses showcase the unique architectural style of the region. Before Weinhübel became part of Görlitz, this area defined the village structure.

On January 1 1949, Weinhübel was incorporated into Görlitz. This integration meant the village lost its political independence. It became part of the larger urban structure. This happened after the war. Görlitz was reorganized. It lost eastern territories. The Neisse River became the new state border. Weinhübel was near the city center. It began to play a more important role as a residential area.

After World War II, Weinhübel’s structure changed greatly. Industrialization and a need for housing altered the district. Urban features began to replace its rural character. New residential areas appeared. These were mainly for workers’ families. But the original village center stayed intact. This gave Weinhübel a blend of city and country.

In the 1970s and 1980s, infrastructure improved. Roads were upgraded. There was better public transport. Weinhübel became a desirable place to live for families and commuters.

Today Weinhübel is a vital part of Görlitz. It provides residents with a high standard of living. The historic village center and rolling hills recall its beginnings. But the area has grown. Modern housing estates and good infrastructure have been added. Its closeness to nature with the Neisse meadows and Lake Berzdorf makes Weinhübel a popular place to live and relax.

Weinhübel has a fascinating story. It shows how a rural place can join a city’s growth. While keeping its own special identity. Take a stroll. Soak in the peace and quiet. It is easy to see why Weinhübel is a great place to call home.
