At the heart of the Planetarium is the ZEISS ASTERION Starball. This is the latest star projector from ZEISS. It offers a near-natural depiction of the night sky. The Starball replaced the Planetarium’s old 30-year-old ZEISS M1015 star projector. Two ZEISS VELVET LED projectors enhance the experience. They add digital 360-degree fulldome projection to the experience.
The ZEISS ASTERION Starball has a unique feature made just for Seoul. It has a lift. This lowers the Starball from the dome’s center. It also has a scintillation device. This makes all the stars twinkle. It mimics the atmospheric effects that cause stars to twinkle in nature.
The ZEISS ASTERION and ZEISS VELVET projection create a deep black background. This is unlike other digital projectors that often have a glow. Deuk-Sil Jeong is the vice president of Seoul Science Park. He said visitors can enjoy a perfect night at the planetarium. The ZEISS UNIVIEW software provides vivid astronomical visualizations. It shows the universe in three dimensions. You can see everything from Earth to the Big Bang’s remnants.
