Karasunomiya Shrine began in 1215. Sailors wished for harbor prosperity. Hideyoshi used a three-legged crow for safe ocean journeys.

Nishikujo Jinja Shrine originated in 1680. Settlers prayed for a good harvest.

The Ajigawa River Tunnel replaced the Genpei Ferry. It provides a shortcut. It was completed in 1944.
