Here stands Shuixi station. Think about the countless commuters who have passed through here. Shuixi station is more than just a transport hub. It is a testament to Guangzhou’s ever evolving urban landscape.

Shuixi station is an interchange station. It links Line 7 and Line 21 of the Guangzhou Metro. Line 21 was the first to open on December 20, 2019. Line 7 followed later on December 28, 2023. This connection makes Shuixi a vital point in the city’s transit network.

Originally, plans envisioned Shuixi station differently. It was to be the northern terminus of Line 4. However, city planners extended Line 4 at both ends in 2010. It became what we know today as Line 21. For a time, authorities even considered canceling the station. Eventually, they reinstated it during the environmental impact assessment stage.

The station’s design also saw changes. In 2016, authorities extended the second phase of Plan 7 to Shuixi station. Initially, Line 21 was not planned to connect with Line 7. By the end of 2016, the design changed. It included a reserved transfer point with Line 7.

Significant milestones mark Shuixi station’s development. On April 30, 2019, Line 21 completed its transfer to the ‘3 Powers’ at this station. August 29, 2023 saw express trains on Line 21 begin stopping here. This was to align with the upcoming opening of Line 7’s second phase.

October 2023 was another landmark. Line 7 station completed its transfer to the ‘3 Powers’. On December 28, 2023, Line 7 officially opened. Shuixi station then became the interchange station we use today.

Let’s talk about the layout. The Line 21 station features an underground island platform. There are two bypass tracks next to the main tracks. Beneath it, Line 7 has its own island platform. Six exits are available lettered A through F. Exits A, C, and F are accessible. Shuixi Road hosts exits A, B, and D. Luosuizhi Street has exits C, E, and F. If you take Exit A, you can connect to the Huangpu Tram Line 1 THP1.

Imagine the complex engineering required to build this interchange. Think about the planners who adapted and modified the design to meet the city’s needs. Shuixi station stands as a testament to Guangzhou’s commitment to efficient urban transit. Next time you pass through, remember the story beneath your feet. It is a story of planning, adaptation, and connection.
