Perched near HaNeul Kindergarten, you will see the 풍동성당. This Catholic church serves the Pungsan-dong area. Let’s delve into the story of this spiritual place.

The 풍동성당’s journey began humbly. It was established on August 31 2006. IlSan Catholic Church was its spiritual home. Much of its early support came from Ilsan. People from Baeksok-dong and Madu-dong also contributed. This makes IlSan Catholic Church the main supporter.

Initially, the church started in Siksa-dong. This was near Goyang University. The specific address was Siksa-dong 514-22. Preparations led to its first mass on September 17. The church then oversaw Pungdong, Sanhwang-dong and Siksa-dong.

However, traffic and noise became problematic in Siksa-dong. After half a year, it temporarily moved. In 2007, the 풍동성당 relocated near Haedeul Village. This new location was at Pungdong 226-16. The Parish Council was formed in November 2007. This marked the official beginning of the 풍동성당’s history.

In 2009, fundraising started for a new church site. Preparations for construction began. By May 2011, the church finalized construction plans. A new church was built on October 28 2011. The congregation moved in December. The first mass in the new church occurred on December 24 2011. The new church was consecrated on June 22 2013.

A significant change happened in 2010. The Siksa-dong area became the Siksa-dong Catholic Church. This made Pungdong Catholic Church responsible for that area.

In 2016, the 풍동성당 created a new CI. The selected CI became the church’s official symbol. Before this, a cross was used in photos.

The area overseen by 풍동성당 includes Pungsan-dong and Sanhwang-dong. It is divided into several districts within Pungsan-dong. Sanhwang-dong is also partly under its care. Before 2010, Siksa-dong was part of the 풍동성당’s area. This was before the establishment of Siksa-dong Catholic Church.

Finding the 풍동성당 is straightforward. It is located at Suksok Maeul-ro 49-69. This corresponds to Pungdong 1291.

Public transport is easily accessible. Take the subway to Baengma Station. From there, walking can be complex due to the maze-like streets. Using a map is advisable. Alternatively, take bus 039 from Baengma Station exit 1. Get off at Suksok Maeul 1 Complex. The church is near Haneul Kindergarten.

Mass times vary throughout the week. On Sundays, masses are at 6 AM, 9 AM, 10 AM, 11 AM and 7 PM. Weekday masses occur at 6 AM and 10 AM. Saturday masses are at 3 PM and 7 PM.

The 풍동성당 stands as a testament. It shows faith and community spirit. From its humble start to its current presence, it remains a vital place. It enriches the lives of its parishioners.
