Later the story of the canal’s creation changed. It was credited to a fictional entrepreneur Yasui Doton. This version helped boost the area’s popularity. In 1915 a stone monument honored this fictional character. However in the 1965 Dotonbori Trial it was determined that Yasui Doton was fictional.
