Gazing at the horizon of Mukim Gadong A, one can almost sense the echoes of its recent birth. Mukim Gadong A wasn’t always here. It emerged on November 21, 2005, from the division of the former Mukim Gadong. This administrative reshaping gave rise to both Mukim Gadong ‘A’ and its sibling, Mukim Gadong ‘B’. This relatively young mukim already holds a significant place in Brunei-Muara District. Its story is one of rapid growth and evolving demographics, a microcosm of Brunei’s dynamic present. Mukim Gadong A is bordered by the South China Sea to the north, creating a scenic coastline. Some parts of this coastline have been extended with land reclamation projects, altering the natural landscape and even giving rise to small, artificial islands dotted with trees. The mukim is further bordered by Mukim Berakas ‘A’ to the east, Mukim Gadong ‘B’ to the south, and Mukim Sengkurong to the west. The population of Mukim Gadong A has seen a steady increase. In 2016, the population stood at 34,049, comprising 16,859 males and 17,190 females, residing in 5,338 dwellings within 5,395 households. By 2021, the population had grown to 35,424, showcasing the ongoing development and attraction of this coastal mukim. This entire population resides in urban areas, reflecting the mukim’s classification as an urban area. Mukim Gadong A is further divided into several settlements, each with its own unique character. These include Kampong Rimba (Areas 1, 2, and STKRJ Areas 1 and 2), RPN Kampong Rimba (Areas 1 to 5), Kampong Katok, and Kampong Tungku (including STKRJ Areas 1 to 3). Each of these areas contributes to the rich tapestry of Mukim Gadong A, making it a vibrant hub within Brunei.
