During the Tensho era a priest named Ryoyo Dogen founded Tokuzoji Temple. This was during the Azuchi-Momoyama period. Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi ruled then. Imagine Dogen an itinerant priest. He settled in Osaki. He built a hermitage there. He enshrined images. These included Amida Nyorai Kannon Bosatsu and Seishi Bosatsu. These are housed in the temple today.

Tokuzoji Temple in Osaka stands as a testament to resilience. It has survived fires and earthquakes. A significant fire occurred in 1850. The main building and documents were destroyed.
