“Established in 1975” a weathered sign proclaims silently. That was the year Xã Đồi 61 was founded in Đồng Nai province. It’s a place with a story etched into its very soil. Xã Đồi 61 is a commune located in Trảng Bom district.
Xã Đồi 61 sits in the heart of the Trảng Bom district. To the east it meets Tây Hòa and Trung Hòa communes. To the west it shares borders with Quảng Tiến and Giang Điền communes. An Viễn commune lies to the south. The town of Trảng Bom and Sông Trầu commune mark its northern boundary.
In 1994 part of the dissolved Trảng Bom 1 commune became part of Xã Đồi 61. This included Ấp Vườn Ngô and the area south of National Route 1.
In 2003 Thống Nhất district was split. It became two districts Thống Nhất and Trảng Bom. Xã Đồi 61 then became part of Trảng Bom district. By 2019 Xã Đồi 61 was part of an expanded Trảng Bom town. It was recognized as a type IV đô thị.
Xã Đồi 61 is divided into four hamlets. These are Tân Phát Tân Đạt Tân Hưng and Tân Thịnh.
In the past Xã Đồi 61 has seen success in agricultural projects. One project supported agricultural production for poor households. It focused on Trảng Bom district. Seven communes took part with over 500 million đồng of support. A free-range chicken farming model in Xã Đồi 61 proved effective.
One farmer Hoàng Đức Hòa of Ấp Tân Phát raised chickens. He was supported by the provincial agricultural extension center. He received 80 young chickens. Initially he was both happy and worried. He was grateful for the support. He also wondered how to escape poverty. Following proper techniques his chickens grew quickly. After two months they averaged 2.2 kg each. Selling at 70000 đồng per kg he made a profit of 3-4 million đồng.
Other poor households also learned from training courses. They gained strength to overcome poverty. They improved their lives. Other projects boosted effective farming too.
Sadly Xã Đồi 61 has faced legal issues more recently. In 2023 officials were prosecuted. They were charged with abusing their positions. This related to illegal construction in the Tân Thịnh residential area. It involved the company LDG.
