Blackwood, driven by divine inspiration, founded The New Jerusalem Church of God. The first congregation consisted of his family and a handful of friends. Their faith resonated. The church blossomed, quickly outgrowing its initial space. Blackwood envisioned a larger sanctuary, a true testament to their growing faith. The congregation rallied, raising funds with unwavering devotion. In 1991, they acquired land on Springfield Boulevard. The mortgage was paid off in just four years, a testament to their collective dedication. Construction of the new sanctuary began in 1998. A proud moment arrived on May 15th, 1999. The New Jerusalem Church family marched from their old location to the new edifice on Springfield Boulevard. The dedication ceremony took place even before construction was fully complete. They began worshipping in their new home, a symbol of their perseverance. The New Jerusalem Church of God isn’t just a place of worship. It’s a pillar of the community. It houses the C.O.M.E ministry. C.O.M.E stands for Christians Outreach Mission Endeavor. This ministry addresses the physical and temporal needs of the community. The church also provides an annual Thanksgiving meal for those in shelters and runs a Senior Citizens Program. Their message extends beyond the physical walls. The “Jerusalem Hour” broadcast reaches a wide audience across the Metropolitan area. This has spurred the creation of a 24-hour prayer line. The New Jerusalem Church of God has expanded its reach. It now has branches in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Stone Mountain, Georgia. It also supports affiliated churches, both domestically and internationally. The church’s influence spans continents.
