Dhows and ships would anchor here, their crews transferring cargo and people long before Mina Zayed port was even a dream. Sadly, Ladies Beach, as it was traditionally known, is no more. In 2022, the gates closed, marking the end of an era. The government’s decision to redevelop the area, including the construction of the magnificent Qasr Al Watan, the Presidential Palace, led to its closure. While the physical space has transformed, the spirit of Ladies Beach endures in the memories of those who basked in its sun-kissed sands. Although Ladies Beach is gone, the Corniche continues to thrive. This vibrant promenade boasts children’s play areas, dedicated cycle and pedestrian paths, and a plethora of restaurants and cafes. It’s a testament to Abu Dhabi’s ability to blend the old with the new. So, as you stroll along the Corniche, remember the echoes of Ladies Beach. Imagine the women who sought solace and community within its dedicated space. While its physical form has vanished, the essence of Ladies Beach remains, a poignant reminder of Abu Dhabi’s ever-evolving story.
