Curious about a place that has transformed over the decades? That place is Xã Tân Bửu. Today we will explore this commune in Bến Lức District, Long An Province.
Xã Tân Bửu is a place with a rich history. It has seen changes in its administrative status. It is located in the Đồng bằng sông Cửu Long region of Vietnam. Xã Tân Bửu’s story began long before its current form.
Under French rule, Tân Bửu was a village. It belonged to tổng Long Hưng Hạ, quận Trung Quận. Quận Trung was also known as quận Gò Đen. It was part of Chợ Lớn province.
After 1956, the villages became known as xã. In 1957, the Republic of Vietnam dissolved Chợ Lớn province. Most of the old Gò Đen district was merged into Gia Định province. However, tổng Long Hưng Hạ became part of the newly formed Bến Lức district. At that time, Bến Lức was under Long An province. So Xã Tân Bửu became part of Bến Lức district.
After 1975, Xã Tân Bửu merged with Xã Thanh Hà. Together they formed Xã Tân Thanh, which was part of huyện Bến Lức. On March 11, 1977, Bến Lức district merged with Thủ Thừa district. The new district was called Bến Thủ. Xã Tân Thanh then belonged to huyện Bến Thủ.
But changes continued. On March 24, 1979, the government issued Decision 128-CP. This decision had two important effects. First, it established Xã Thanh Phú. This was created from part of Xã Tân Thanh and Xã Long Phú. Second, Xã Tân Thanh was renamed Xã Tân Bửu.
In 1983, huyện Bến Thủ was divided again. It became Bến Lức and Thủ Thừa districts. Xã Tân Bửu then returned to Bến Lức district.
On August 31, 1992, Xã Tân Hòa was formed. It was created from parts of Xã Tân Bửu and Lương Hòa. Most recently, on October 24, 2024, further adjustments occurred. A portion of Tân Hòa was integrated into Tân Bửu.
As of 2024, Xã Tân Bửu has a natural area of 22.02 km². The population is 10,369 people. In 2009, the population was 8,957.
Today, Xã Tân Bửu is divided into 7 hamlets. They are numbered 1 through 7. It is bordered by Ho Chi Minh City to the east and north. To the west, it borders Xã An Thạnh and Xã Lương Hòa. To the south, it borders Xã Mỹ Yên and Xã Thanh Phú.
Notably, the Tân Bửu Industrial Park is located here. It has a scale of 100 ha. Industrial land makes up 65.67% of the park.
Xã Tân Bửu has gone through many administrative changes. It reflects Vietnam’s complex history. From French rule to today, it has transformed. It remains a vital part of Long An province. Its story continues to evolve.
