Hailwood’s Height is the highest point on the Snaefell Mountain Course. This course is famously used for the Isle of Man TT Races. The section leading up to this peak was once known as Hailwood’s Rise. It was renamed in honour of Mike Hailwood. He was a phenomenal motorcycling champion. Hailwood’s incredible skill and bravery are celebrated here.

The name Hailwood’s Height carries weight. It’s not simply a geographical marker. It represents a significant part of the Island’s racing heritage. This is where years of thrilling races unfolded. The roar of powerful engines the smell of burning rubber the intense focus of riders pushing their machines and themselves to the limit. All this played out along this very stretch of road.

Hailwood’s Height wasn’t always associated with motorcycle racing. It was part of earlier courses too. The Highland Course and the Four Inch Course were used for car races. These races took place between 1904 and 1922. The Gordon Bennett Trial and Tourist Trophy races tested drivers’ skills and endurance. These races cemented the Isle of Man’s position in the world of motorsports.

But it was Hailwood’s legacy that truly cemented Hailwood’s Height’s place in history. He won fourteen Isle of Man TT races a testament to his skill and courage. He even returned to victory in 1978 at the age of 38. His comeback was a remarkable feat. He proved his passion for the sport and his indomitable spirit. Sadly he died in 1981. But his name lives on.
